Bio:

Dr. Heggie graduated from the University of Toronto in Medicine in 1986. As a general practitioner in the near north, she developed an interest in the critically ill child and transferred to anaesthesiology. She developed an early interest in cardiac anaesthesia, particularly the adult with congenital heart disease,  and completed cardiothoracic anaesthesia and ICU fellowship at Toronto General Hospital.

Dr. Heggie has been a staff member at Toronto General Hospital and attending ICU physician since 1996. She was the director of fellowship programs 2004-2013 and the director of perioperative congenital cardiac services until 2018. In May of 2019 she became the medical director of the CVICU.

Dr. Heggie is an international delegate with the ICRC -Geneva and the Canadian Red Cross. She has deployed in conflict zones and human migration zones in collaboration with the National Health authorities.
